Students to get $25 gift card and chance to win iPod

By ELIZABETH LEFFALL

Where do you get information for a research paper and what sources do you use?

Answer these and other questions to become 1 in 50 of 200 students on campus to win a 20-gigabyte iPod.

Students who take the Information & Communication Technology (ICT) literacy assessment by March 11 will be entered into a drawing, sponsored by the Henry Madden Library, for a chance to win one of four iPods.

The ICT Literacy test, designed to gauge the ability of college students to find and use information, takes about two and a half hours to complete.

Fresno State was one of several CSU schools selected to field test the ICT.

“It’s our responsibility to test the test,” said Ross LaBaugh, coordinator of library instruction.

LaBaugh said students don’t have to be computer experts to complete the test ,and the results won’t affect their status or GPA at Fresno State.

“We’re wrapping it up now. We’ve been testing students since February 22. Before it’s over, we’ll have tested over 200 students. Seats are limited. Students should sign up now before we close registration, LaBaugh said.

All participants will receive a $25 certificate redeemable at www.giftcertificates.com courtesy of the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

LaBaugh said the library was proud to be selected to work with such a prestigious organization as ETS.

“ETS is probably the largest testing organization in the nation,” he said. This group is also responsible for instituting the SAT, the ACT and the California Exit Exam for high school students.”

LaBaugh did not specify the drawing date.

“We’ll probably draw names on either March 17 or 18. I hope students take advantage of this opportunity.

These iPods are the good ones,” he said.

To register, visit www.lib.csufresno.edu. or call LaBaugh at 278-2230.
