Baseball wins 1 in weekend series

Staff Report / The Collegian

After losing the first two games of a three-game series against UC-Santa Barbara over the weekend, Fresno State won 5-4 on Sunday to improve to 2-9 on the season.

The Bulldogs had lost six straight before Sunday’s win.

Junior pitcher Doug Fister, a 6-foot-8 transfer from Merced College, started and gave up four runs (three earned) in six innings for the victory.

With the Bulldogs down 3-1 in the fourth inning, junior Chase Moore battled through an 11-pitch at-bat before hitting a towering two-run home run to left field to tie the game. Moore’s blast hit high up on the light standard behind the left-field fence.

Sophomore Nick Moresi led off the sixth with a home run, before Gauchos pitcher Loren Fraser balked with a man on third, putting the Bulldogs ahead 5-4.
