New university guidelines available online

A new guideline is available online at www.csufresno.edu offering students and faculty information about university-related guidelines concerning graphics and publications.

There are four areas of information provided about communication: use of logos and graphics, publications review process, on-campus support and guidelines to use formal and informal university names.

The communication area provides guidelines on how to make a business card and what to put on it, information for editorial guidelines and how to obtain the university’s official letterheads or stationery.

The communication area also provides a guideline. For instance, in all formal cases, California State University, Fresno is used. Informal cases call for the use of the informal name Fresno State—never CSUF or FSU.

The second section of the guidelines provides information and pictures of Fresno State’s trademarked logos and graphic elements and the official university colors. Certain rules apply as to which logos should be used.

The University Seal is to be used only in formal business, such as on official business cards and stationery or anything related to academics. Other logos, such as the Sunburst logos and Bronze Medallion are used in informal or promotional instances.

The publication review process guidelines provide information on what publications need to be officially reviewed by the university. In this case, only university-related publications, such as department newsletters and brochures, need to be reviewed. Student-run publications, such as The Collegian, would not be reviewed, although students are encouraged to follow university standards.

The last section provides information about on-campus support. Fresno States offers a range of on-campus support for graphic design, photography services, printing, project management, and mailing services. These departments are mainly intended for university-related business only.

For instance, University Communications can manage a project from concept through delivery. University Printing Services will analyze, design, and provide assistance with the layout and prepress brochures, flyers, posters, letterheads and business cards.
