'Dogs drive to end domestic violence

Just about a year since her sister became a victim of domestic violence, softball Coach Margie Wright organized an event between her program and the Marjaree Mason Center, coordinating “Domestic Violence Awareness Night,” during Thursday’s game against Louisiana Tech. Wright said it was important to spread the message at one of her games. “Softball is a women’s sport and most domestic violence occurs against women,” Wright said. “It was also something to honor my sister.” According to www.ywcawings.org/ factsheet.html, a woman in the United States is battered every nine seconds. Six thousand women die each year as a result of domestic violence. Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women between the ages of 15-44, more than automobile accidents, muggings and cancer deaths combined.More>>

A 'Dog Eat 'Dog World at Bulldog Diamond

Fresno State swept Louisiana Tech in a doubleheader between two teams nicknamed the Bulldogs on Thursday night at Bulldog Diamond. Fresno State won the first game 5-1 behind a three-run home run from Christina Clark (shown receiving high-fives from teammates) in the sixth inning. Lori Hoffman pitched game one, giving up five hits and one unearned run in the full seven innings. Laura Ferreira earned the game two victor with a complete-game shutout that Fresno State won 2-0. Jamie Southern was 3 for 3 at the plate to help the team improve to 46-15 overall and 19-1 in the Western Athletic Conference. Fresno State hosts Tulsa next for a Saturday doubleheader.

Pentagon should prove detainees' guilt

The Pentagon recently stated that six of the 595 detainees at the United States Naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba would face trial by a military tribunal. Only two of the six suspects have been officially charged. According to Pentagon officials, the suspects being held at Guantanamo Bay are hard-core terrorists and the “worst of the worst.” If that is the case, then where is the proof? Why won’t the Pentagon charge all the suspects and produce some evidence that will stand up in a court of law? Could it be that some of those men might be innocent victims caught up in the turbulence of war?More>>
