Fresno culture highlighted in library lectureA Fresno historian will discuss “Culture and Entertainment in the Young City of Fresno” at the Friends of the Madden Library program today at 6:30 p.m. Author Cathy Rehart will trace the development of cultural opportunities as Fresno grew from a railroad stop to the major city of the Central Valley that it is today. She will also focus on the changing social environment of the city. Rehart’s family came to Fresno in 1873, one year after the town was founded. She is a graduate of Fresno High School and received her bachelor’s degree in English and history from Fresno State. Rehart serves as Vice-Chairwoman for the Historic Preservation Commission for the City of Fresno, and was on the Board of Directors for the Fresno Historical Society. A reception will be held at 6:00 p.m. for those who reserved a spot. The meeting will begin at 6:30 and last until 9. A fee of $2 is required for non-members and $1 for students. — Beth Warmerdam |
