AS president to attend CSU summit

Associated Students President Neil Gibson will be in Long Beach today as part of the California State University Budget Summit.

Gibson will join University President John Welty and Academic Senate chair Barbara Birch at the Chancellor’s office to discuss recent and future cuts to the CSU’s budget.

“ Our goal is to make sure the priority is 100 percent focused on the student,” Gibson said.

CSU Chancellor Charles Reed invited student presidents, university presidents and chairs of academic senates to Long Beach to discuss next year’s proposed budget for the CSU system, which calls for a 9 percent cut in spending.

Combined with budget cuts from last year, the CSU system faces a loss of 28.8 percent.

The CSU board of trustees will hold their next meeting March 16 and 17 at the Save Mart Center.
