Faculty publications highlighted in library

More than 30 publications by faculty members were put behind glass display cabinets Friday at the ground floor of the library to mark the seventh annual Faculty Publication Exhibition.

Various faculty, including Benjamin Boone of the music department, Bruce Thornton of the humanities department, Kenneth Fugelsang of the wine and enology department and Angela Hudson of the nursing department, contributed works to the display case.

“ It’s just nice that the administration spent a nice part of their time to do some work besides teaching,” Boone said.

University President John Welty said the exhibition provides Fresno State with a chance to share in the works of the faculty.

“ This is a great opportunity to honor some outstanding faculty,” Welty said. “We are very fortunate to have faculty that is very active.”

He noted that the event was being held in the library at a time when the building is about to undergo an almost threefold expansion as a result of the passage of Proposition 55.

Fresno State will receive $91 million in Proposition 55 funds to upgrade library facilities.

“ If the passing of Proposition 55 was tough, wait until you see how tough it will be to keep the library open in the next two years,” Welty said.

Welty caused laughter among the faculty when he said the library may have to put up tents to keep its operations going.

34 departments from nine colleges presented publications for the exhibition. The exhibition will end March 15.
