Fresno State vs. East Tennessee State preview

Fresno State

Point Guard

Shantay Legans is the team’s main source of offense. And things will continue to be that way as long as Fresno State has suspended players. Legans scored 24 points and hit six 3-pointers in the Bulldogs’ win at Tulsa Wednesday.

Shooting Guard

What ankle injury? Marcus West was limited by his injury for two games before playing all 40 minutes against Tulsa. West had 10 points, including two 3s. The hotter his shooting touch, the better the team’s chances of winning.

Small Forward

The emergence of Dreike Bouldin is upon us. Bouldin had a double-double against Boise State before scoring a career-high 19 points with five 3s against Tulsa. Bouldin also pulled down eight rebounds.

Power Forward

Chris Adams chewed up most of the minutes (29) in Wednesday’s game, tallying four points and five rebounds. Adams can be a go-to scorer when he’s on, and the Bulldogs could use some points from the post against the under-sized Buccaneers.

Center

The slump of Mustafa Al-Sayyad continues. The redshirt junior grabbed five rebounds against Tulsa but was scoreless for the first time all season. The Bulldogs have to do a better job of getting Al-Sayyad the ball down low.

Tennessee State

Point Guard

Sophomore Tim Smith is just 5-foot-9 but is the leading scorer for a team that has won 14 straight and is 22-4 overall and 14-0 in the Southern Conference. Smith averages 15.2 points per game with 4 rebounds and 4.2 assists. But Legans has the experience advantage.

EDGE: BULLDOGS

Shooting Guard

James Anthony hit three 3s en route to a13-point showing against The Citadel on Monday. The junior averages 10 points per game.

EDGE: BULLDOGS

Small Forward

Sophomore Ben Rhoda is coming off an 11-point, 11-rebound performance against The Citadel. Rhoda averages 11.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. Bouldin’s hot streak makes this a good match-up.

EDGE: EVEN

Power Forward

Zakee Wadood is under-sized at 6-5, 220 pounds, but he manages to score 14.9 points per game and grab 7.7 rebounds. He’s not a bad passer either with 2.6 assists per game. Adams should be able to take advantage of his four-inch height advantage.

EDGE: EVEN

Center

Not exactly the prototype center at 6-7, 260 pounds, but Jerald Fields scores averages 12.7 points and 6.2 rebounds. Not good news for a slumping Al-Sayyad.

EDGE: BUCCANEERS
