Renowned pianist, faculty member to perform solo classical recital Sunday on campus
Renowned pianist and music department faculty member Natasha Kislenko will perform a solo concert on Feb. 22 in the music building concert hall. Kislenko will be performing in her fourth concert and third solo recital since joining the faculty in 2002. Kislenko’s recital will feature music by Schumann, Bartok, Rachmaninoff and Shostakovich. “ People should attend the concert to see a very accomplished pianist performing works by major composers,” said John Harper, the department concert coordinator. Kislenko has been awarded several top prizes in competitions in Germany, Portugal and the Slovak Republic, as well as first prize in the Missouri Southern International Piano Competition. “ She is very talented,” Harper said of Kislenko. Born and raised in Moscow, Kislenko began taking piano lessons at the age of 6 and became a student at the Central Special Music School for Gifted Children. Since then, she has performed concerts in Russia, Europe and the United States, including a Carnegie Hall recital debut in 1996. The price of admission is $4 for the general public and $3 for students, staff and faculty, as well as senior citizens. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert is expected to run from 6 until 7:30, with one intermission. Harper said the proceeds from the event will benefit the Music Scholarship Fund. |
