A message for the hundreds of students hoping to secure financial aid money this semester: get to the back of the line.

Although 12,000 students have already received their financial aid awards, hundreds more must wait behind 60 other students at any given time before being helped at the financial aid office, located on the second floor of the Joyal building. More>>

Classes start with fees due, budget tapped
Students face a 30-percent fee increase as classes start today that will go toward half of Fresno State’s $21.1 million shortfall.
The fee increase, due Sept. 26, was approved by CSU trustees in July to blunt the impact of $345 million in CSU budget cuts. More>>

Students cram into halls, some in 3s
Hundreds of Fresno State students felt the crunch of the on-campus housing demand last week as they moved into the campus residence halls.
During the 2002-2003 school year, the University Courtyard received more than 1,500 applications for student housing. As of Aug. 18, nearly 2,000 students had applied for student housing for the upcoming year. More>>

The Collegian wins 17 awards in 11 categories
The Collegian was recently honored by the California Intercollegiate Press Association, winning 17 awards in 11 categories.
The Collegian placed third in the general excellence category and won both first and third for two separate submissions in the special section category. The sports section took third place. More>>

Enrollment cutback, frozen in 2004 semesters
Fresno State is no longer accepting applications for this semester, and next year’s enrollment will be even smaller. That means students who are interested in sticking around for the spring 2004 semester need to keep close watch.
The state budget cut enrollment growth across all CSU campuses for spring 2004 to 4.2 percent, and the CSUs have already projected zero enrollment growth for the 2004-05 academic year. More>>

New policy packs smokers in zones
This semester 17 smoking areas have been designated on campus, and in two months smokers will be forced to stay in those areas to light up.
