The Collegian wins 17 awards in 11 categories

The Collegian wins 17 awards in 11 categories

The Collegian was recently honored by the California Intercollegiate Press Association, winning 17 awards in 11 categories.

The Collegian placed third in the general excellence category and won both first and third for two separate submissions in the special section category. The sports section took third place.

The newspaper also placed in two design categories, including first place and honorable mention for two entries in front-page layout. The overall design placed third and honorable mention.

Collegian reporter Rory Sa placed second in the news series category. News Editor Adrian Rodriguez placed second for an opinion column.

The Collegian’s cartoonist, John Rios, won second for an editorial cartoon.

Fall 2002 photo editor Cary Edmondson placed first in the sports photograph category and also tied for honorable mention for a second submission.

Spring 2003 photo editor Jill Richards placed second and third in the news photograph category. And Justin Kase Conder received first place for his feature photo. The staff also won honorable mention for a feature photo.

Fresno State’s Collegian newspaper was one of the top honorees in this year’s CIPA contest.

Other newspapers winning multiple awards included The UC-San Diego Guardian, the Poly Post of Cal Poly Pomona, The Mustang Daily at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, The Daily Bruin at UCLA, the Daily Titan at Cal State Fullerton and The Daily Californian at UC-Berkeley, among others.
