The Fresno State men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to play their third and final doubleheader of the season.
In the first game, the women’s basketball team is set to play the University of Nevada, Las Vegas for senior day. The ‘Dogs are honoring six players: Morelia Chavez, Indiya Clarke, Djessira Diawara, Jaisa Gamble, Hedda Koehne and Emilia Long.
In their first matchup, the Rebels ran away with an 85-59 win over the Bulldogs. Despite leading 14-12 after the first quarter, the Bulldogs were outscored 73-45 in the final 30 minutes. Former Bulldog Mariah Elohim dropped a game-high 17 points.
The ‘Dogs have one final game at the University of New Mexico before the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas. If the season were to end today, the Bulldogs would be the No. 7 seed and take on the No. 10 seed University of Nevada, Reno.
Both the Lady ‘Dogs and Rebels came out firing in the first quarter, making for an energetic environment.
The Rebels used their size to get in the paint against the Bulldogs to build up an 18-10 lead after 10 minutes.
The ‘Dogs cashed in on a flagrant foul to score their first point of the second quarter 1:58 in.
The Rebels’ Aaliyah Alexander and Meadow Roland combined for 23 of the Rebels’ 36 points in the opening half.
Without size, the Bulldogs struggled in the first half to stop the Rebels’ attack.
The start of the third quarter was delayed due to net issues.
Less than a minute into the third quarter, the game was delayed again because of a clock issue.
The ‘Dogs came out strong to start the second half, cutting the Rebels’ lead to nine at the 6:08 mark. The run forced the Rebels to call their first timeout.
A third clock issue caused another delay with 4:34 to go in the third quarter.
Despite cutting the lead to seven at one point in the third quarter, the ‘Dogs struggled to find offense, going nearly 10 minutes without points.
The men’s team has been playing from behind for a majority of the game.
The Broncos have been doing most of their work on offense from behind the 3-point line, shooting 8-for-27 from beyond the arc in the first half.
The Bulldogs were out rebounded in the first half 24-19.
The Broncos continued their success off the glass, dominating in both offensive and defensive rebounds.
With under five minutes to play, the Bulldogs were able to cut the deficit to single digits.
The ‘Dogs ended the game on a scoring drought that lasted the last two minutes of the game, en route to a 69-53 loss.
