The NCAA has continued its effort to bring more revenue to college athletics with the approval of commercial logos for uniforms.
Just 18 months after the NCAA approved schools to place logos on football fields, the Division I Cabinet approved additional commercial logos or patches on uniforms, equipment and apparel.
Starting on Aug. 1, Division I teams can put up to two patches on uniforms for regular-season games.
The NCAA follows suit with professional leagues like Major League Soccer, which was the first major North American league to allow jersey ads in 2007. Leagues like the NBA added logos in 2017, while the MLB added them in 2023.
So far, the logos are for regular-season games only, as teams may have competing sponsorships to the NCAA during the collegiate playoff formats.
Fresno State has yet to announce who or if the Bulldogs will advertise, starting next school year.
The Bulldogs did add the Table Mountain Casino Resort logo on the turf of Valley Children’s Stadium this past season.
