The Fresno State football team took down New Mexico State 41-0 on Sept. 17, 1988.
34,459 fans packed into Bulldog Stadium to watch the ‘Dogs blank the Aggies in a Big West Conference battle.
Similar to the Bulldogs of today, it was the rushing attack that led the way.
Fullback Myron Jones led the way with 78 rushing yards, adding three touchdown runs. Jones was one of nine different running backs who saw action in this game.
The Bulldogs combined for 444 total yards of offense.
The dominant win came just a week after the Bulldogs’ first loss of the season, a 45-3 trouncing at the hands of the University of Colorado.
Following the victory over the Aggies, the Bulldogs went 8-1, including a win over Western Michigan in the California Bowl.
The 1988 season marked Head Coach Jim Sweeney’s fourth conference title of his career. Sweeney went on to win four more titles with the ‘Dogs.
