Even though it’s still unfortunately averaging around 95 degrees here in Fresno, the fall season is indeed upon us. 

Specifically, we are now entering the fall fashion season. With autumn in the air, I’ve looked at the runways and the TikTok trends to bring you my 2025 fall fashion predictions.

Kicking us off, I have statement layers. Quilted patchwork jackets, printed sherpas, big chunky scarves and patterned cardigans have been consistent with the colder weather, and I believe they’re here to stay.

Polka dots have been all the rage this past season. While I don’t think polka dots are disappearing anytime soon, I think the pattern to come to the forefront of fall fashion will be stripes, with plaid following closely behind in trend. 

The runways have recently been filled with stripes and plaid: Look at the Isabel Marant Fall-Winter 2025 collection, the Fendi Women’s and Men’s Fall/Winter 2025-26 Show and the Ralph Lauren Fall 2025 Runway Show.

Ballet sneakers have been increasingly popular following the Adidas Sambas fad, with shoes like Puma Speedcats gaining traction. Adidas recently released a Mary Jane version of the Sambas, coining the term Samba Jane, in a similar fashion. Other shoes coming in hot for fall: Square-toed boots and mules.

I’ve been seeing a lot of vintage-inspired twists in popular retail stores recently, incorporating lots of lace and boho fashion into their collections.

Textiles of the season will include suede and cashmere. Between the viral Intimissimi cashmere top and trendy suede hobo bags, these textures never go out of style and typically swing back around every autumn.

And finally, the color of the season. I’m calling it now— it’s going to be purple, with shades like plum and eggplant. Runways like the Miu Miu Fall Winter 2025 Fashion Show have been seeing lots of these red-toned purples, and I feel like I’ve seen these hues in even the trendiest of retail stores’ latest arrivals– Garage, Aerie and Baggu at Urban Outfitters have been doused in a perfect purple rain.
