The NFL season has officially started and a few former Bulldogs showed what they could do in Week 1.
Davante Adams
Davante Adams and the Los Angeles Rams beat the Houston Texans 14-9 in a defensive battle. Adams had four catches on eight targets for 51 yards. He did not make it in the endzone for either of the two touchdowns scored by the Rams.
Adams had two impressive catches, one was a 24-yard back shoulder catch on the sideline, his longest in the game, and the second catch was a 15-yard reception where he had to dive and scoop it up.
Adams and the Rams will be on the road in Week 2 as they face the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 14 with kickoff set for 10 a.m.
Daron Bland
Daron Bland is coming out of the offseason with a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys. Bland signed a 4-year $92 million deal with $50 million guaranteed on Aug. 31. To start the season, Daron Bland and the Cowboys played on Thursday night against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The Cowboys ended up losing to the Eagles 24-20. In the game, Bland had three total tackles with two of them being solo tackles and one assisted.
Bland won’t be on the field for Week 2 as he injured his foot in practice on Monday. No surgery is needed but it’s official that he will sit out for the next couple of weeks.
Nikko Remigio
Nikko Remigio is a wide receiver and the starting kick and punt returner for the Kansas City Chiefs. This is his second season with them after he was signed toward the end of 2024. The Chiefs started the season in Brazil and lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 27-21.
Remigio had to get used to the new NFL kickoff. He seemed to like the new rules since he was able to return two kickoffs for 56 yards. He also returned two punts for seven yards total.
Early into the game, Xavier Worthy got hurt and was not able to come back into the game. Remigio was listed as the wide receiver five, but once Worthy went down with an injury, he was moved up in the depth chart.
Post the injury, Remigio was out there with the starters and was sharing his snap count with Tyquan Thornton. However, Remigio didn’t get any targets or catches when he was on the field.
There is nothing for certain yet, but Worthy is likely to be out for a few weeks. This gives Remigio another shot at playing with the Chiefs offense.
The Chiefs get a rematch of Super Bowl LIX as they face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at home on Sept. 14 with kickoff set for 1:25 p.m.
Other ‘Dogs around the league
All the other ‘Dogs in the league are on the practice squads for their respective teams. However, there are a couple of ‘Dogs who are listed as first-string players on the practice squads. New Orleans Saints quarterback Jake Haener, Los Angeles Rams running back Ronnie Rivers, New York Jets safety Dean Clark and Tennessee Titans running back Jordan Mims are all players who are listed.
