Art is something that Olivia Myracle is passionate about since it enables individuals to express themselves, communicates ideas and feelings, and brings people together across different cultures and historical periods. She believes that it has the potential to be an effective mode of communication, a source of aesthetic beauty, and a mirror of the way people see the world.
“Art is very powerful and can connect with others as well as yourself,” said Myracle, who has loved drawing and painting her whole life.
Myracle was born in China and is one among seven siblings. Adopted at two, she lived in Clovis before moving to Fresno.
Her art journey began in elementary school where the experience of being homeschooled molded her into a reserved and socially awkward young woman, she said. She first began making art by mostly drawing with graphite pencils and creating monochromatic pieces that allowed her to focus on composition and value. Given that Myracle is accustomed to working in black and white, color possesses significant power and serves as a highly intentional element in her art. Recently, she began to integrate a word or statement into her art that she feels is fundamentally linked to the theme, which will assist the viewer in understanding the concept of the piece.
Myracle, with a steadfast faith in Jesus Christ and an increasing yearning to assist others, ignited her personal transformation by relocating to Fresno for college. She began at Fresno City College before making the leap to Fresno State continuing her arts major to be more collaborative, to learn from others, and to watch other art majors perfect their craft since she was self taught up until taking college courses.
She found herself pushed beyond her familiar boundaries due to changing schools, which inspired her to become part of student groups on campus. She was president of the Chinese Club and was engaged in the Christian Club, where she cultivated deep friendships and meaningful bonds with other students.
As commencement approaches, Myracle will complete her educational journey with a Bachelor of Arts in art with an emphasis in drawing and painting and a minor in Asian American Studies.. Myracle plans to return to Fresno State for her single teaching certification in arts next year.
