The Fresno State softball team clinched a spot in the final of the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Softball Championship.
The No. 3 seed Fresno State Bulldogs took down the No. 1 seed Nevada Wolfpack 5-2 at San Diego State University Softball Stadium on May 9.
The Mountain West Pitcher of the Year, Serayah Neiss, took the mound, pitching her third consecutive complete game of the tournament. Neiss allowed three runs on seven hits while striking out seven Wolfpack hitters.
Neiss has given up just two runs through three starts in the tournament. In the semifinal game against the Wolfpack, Neiss earned her 20th win of the season, the most wins in a season since Hailey Dolicini finished with 22 wins in 2022.
After getting down early, the Bulldogs took the lead in the third inning and never gave it up, adding two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Center fielder Taryn Irigoyen led the way for the ‘Dogs, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run. This was the senior’s second RBI of the tournament, hitting a sacrifice fly in Thursday’s win against the No. 2 seed San Diego State Aztecs on May 8.
Senior second baseman Marissa Montelongo also collected two hits against Nevada, including a double in the top of the third inning. Montelongo scored twice on the night, once on an error in the third inning and once again in the seventh, thanks to an RBI double from catcher Kennedy Bunker.
With her RBI double, Bunker has reached base safely in 11 straight games.
The Bulldogs now turn their attention back to San Diego State, who beat Nevada 5-4 to clinch a spot in the championship.
The Aztecs will play the Bulldogs in the championship, with first pitch set for noon on Saturday, May 10, with a winner-take-all game to be played later in the day if Fresno State loses.
