The Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology at Fresno State is gearing up for an engaging Welcome Back Social and Career Fair, on Sept. 12 at J.E. O’Neill Park.
The event is designed to connect students with industry leaders in ag-related fields of agriculture, manufacturing, food sciences and animal science.
The career fair, which aims to bridge the gap between students and potential employers, will feature approximately 15-30 companies and will provide a platform for these companies to promote their missions and recruitment initiatives, allowing students to explore various career paths.
“This career fair is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get acquainted with the industries that align with their academic interests,” said Nancy Vue, Jordan College internship coordinator.
The event will focus primarily on ag-based companies and industries relevant to the Jordan College’s six departments: Plant Science, Ag Business, Animal Science, Ag Education, Industrial Tech and Food Sciences.
Participation is on a first-come, first-served basis with companies reserving their spots through a deposit system. Various sponsorship tiers, including gold, silver and platinum are available to support the event financially, each at a different level of donations.
“It’s especially valuable for freshmen who may still be deciding on their career paths,” Vue said. “It allows them to explore different sectors and consider potential internships or future career options.”
In addition to networking opportunities, the fair will offer free food and volleyball, encouraging a relaxed atmosphere where students can mingle with employers and faculty. Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and enjoy the event in a laid-back setting.
“If students are currently and actively looking for their next internship or career opportunity, I would definitely recommend stapling a cover letter and resume on hand to just physically give to these recruiters, because some of these recruiters will be actively recruiting for a current internship,” Vue said.
The fair will also provide a chance for students to ask questions about various career paths and industry expectations.
“It really is more of a non-traditional component, where it really brings together our industry leaders, our students, our college community here, specifically with our Jordan AG, science and tech so our different departments, with our faculty and staff, it really is an event that kind of just showcases what we as a college have to offer, and what the industry also has to offer,” Vue said.
