Way of water!

Photo essay: Students showcase personalities through reusable bottles

Water bottles have become a trend amongst Fresno State students with it becoming a form of self-expression. What I found the most interesting is that you can tell a lot about a person based on the stickers on their water bottles. It was surprising to see more Hydro Flasks than Stanley Cups around the Fresno State campus.

Wendy Torres said her water bottle showcases all the different types of anime she has watched, from hero to action style. Naruto is one of the anime she has completed watching and said she loved it, but Avatar is her favorite series.

“I chose these stickers because I love anime. One of my favorite cartoons is ‘Avatar the Last Airbender,’” Torres said. “I have watched it like three times already.”

Yuviana “Uvi” Hernandez is a psychology major. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

Yuviana Hernandez shows off her love for coffee with Dutch Bros and Starbucks stickers.

“It also has stickers on it of Fresno State, saying that I am a student and I am proud about it,” she said. Hernandez said the stickers reflect her personality.

“The stickers I have on are Dutch Bros and they are pink and they kind of give hippie vibes and I think my personality is kind of chill and I tend to vibe with everyone else,” Hernandez told The Collegian.

Michael Simpson is a business administration major with an emphasis in entrepreneurship. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

“The sticker that I chose to put on my water bottle is a sticker of my fraternity,” Michael Simpson said. “The guys there, I spend a lot of time with and they mean a lot to me.”

Simpson also works at The Broken Controller VR at Campus Pointe and has a sticker of the logo on his water bottle.

“On the back I have Denali, Alaska,” Simpson said, emphasizing, it was a trip he hopes he will never forget. “It was a trip that I just went on this summer with some of my family.”

Spencer Norvell, a mechanical engineering major, shares that his water bottle and all the stickers have been carefully chosen. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

“It definitely reflects a lot of my interest and my personality a little bit, like I have this picture of space, I am interested in my career,” Spencer Norvell said.

One of his favorite stickers is the pink narwhal.

“Me and my roommate and my best friend combined our last names to make Narwhal,” he said.

Jo Maluyao is a music education major. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

Jo Maluyao is a musician with stickers of Beethoven and Amy Winehouse.

“I think this probably shows that I probably have ADHD. It is just a whole bunch of stuff,” Maluyao said.

Luis Rios majors in biology and shares why the stickers on his Hydro Flask relate to science so much. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

“I got these from a microbiology course I was taking in Reedley,” Luis Rios said.

Rios said that the community sticker is his favorite.

“[This is] the community hospital sticker where I work at,” Rios said. “I am very biology and work related. When it comes to the community, I love working there. It is driving my passion to become a PA [physician assistant]. I am really hoping to come back to that hospital as a PA after I am done with school.”

Hannah Cernansky is a food and nutrition major. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

Hannah Cernansky did not have any stickers on her bottle.

“I paid more money for it,” she said. “I do not want to mess it up with stickers.”

Her water bottle was custom-made.

“I said ‘I will get the yellow and purple together. I just like the white.’ But I kind of regret it because it gets dirty,” Cernansky said.

Aman Singh is a computer science major. (Jacqueline Carrillo/The Collegian)

Aman Singh’s water bottle showcases his Bulldog pride.

“I go to Fresno State and [this] represents me being a Bulldog,” Singh said.

His water bottle is also a gift from a friend that he received 8 years ago.

“It is solid, like I am,” Singh said.
