March’s Top Dog of the Month is Tommy Hopfe. He is ranked third for saves in NCAA Division 1 baseball.

A save is earned by the relief pitcher who finishes off the game for the winning team. The Diamond ‘Dog pitcher sits in the leaderboard with six saves in 8.1 innings pitched.

This season he’s averaged an ERA of 2.16 and has only allowed two runs.

Hopfe has not only done his part on defense, but has also been a last-minute offensive resource for the Diamond ‘Dogs.

He’s secured wins, such as the one against New Mexico on March 18, hitting a walk-off left field single to take Game 2 of the series against the Lobos. In that same game, he also recorded a season-high of four hits.

This season, he has posted 11 runs batted in, earning five of those during the month of March in the games against San Francisco, New Mexico and Long Beach State.

The Bakersfield native graduated from Frontier High School and is in his third season as a Diamond ‘Dog.
