March is Women’s History Month, and Fresno State is gearing up for the month-long celebration by hosting a mix of virtual and on-campus events for students to learn about the everlasting impact women have had.
The M.K. Gandhi Center: Inner Peace and Sarvodaya, a program in the College of Arts and Humanities that promotes Gandhi’s philosophy of inner peace and Sarvodaya, is hosting an in-person event of a recently released film documentary.
Thursday, March 16, a screening of the film “Kasturba Gandhi: Accidental Activist” will occur at the Peters Education Center from 6-8 p.m. The film explores how Kasturba Gandhi, the wife of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, lived under his shadow and became the first woman activist in modern history.
After the film, there will be a panel discussion with Cynthia Lukas, the film director, and Veena Howard, director of The M.K. Gandhi Center: Inner Peace and Sarvodaya.

From March 24 to April 1, University Theatre will present the premiere of Jaclyn Backhous’ play “Men on Boats.” The play tells the story of John Wesley Powell and his crew’s journey to the Green River and Colorado River into the Grand Canyon.
Theater director Gina Sandi-Diaz twists the plot by having an all-female-identifying and non-binary cast play the roles of the men.
The Cross Cultural and Gender Center (CCGC) and the Latina/o Faculty and Staff Association will present the Women in Higher Education webinar virtually via zoom on Thursday, March 23, from 12:30-1:30 p.m.
There will be a panel discussion with Katelyn Spencer, Kate Kafonek and Alicia B. Section. RSVP is required.

To wrap up Women’s History Month, the CCGC will host “A Splash of Color” on Wednesday, March 29, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Thomas Building in Room 110.
Lyndsie Lyman, a local artist and Fresno State alumna, will lead the way in a themed painting tutorial. Lyman’s work has been featured locally, including in the Office of the President at the Library.
Art supplies, food and resources will be provided. Students interested in attending the event are required to pre-register. For more information, contact Daniel Rios at [email protected].
