Fresno State’s Spotlight Events hosted “Pajamas and Pancakes” where students ate pancakes and met new people with a speed friending activity.

The event occurred on the second floor of the Resnick Student Union (RSU) from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Katie Davenport, a sophomore at Fresno State, said she attended the event alone, hoping to make new friends, but as the night came to an end, Davenport was the grand prize winner, winning a blanket and plushie.

“I came to meet more people, I don’t have a lot of friends at Fresno State. So I came to make more college friends,” she said.

During the first hour of the event, students participated in a few rounds of ‘Never have I ever.’ As the games progressed, students were seen exchanging numbers and socials all through the night.

After the first round of games, one student from each table was picked to move over to the next table in order to meet other students from each table. Students were grouped up at random based on their arrival time.

Aside from playing ‘Never have I ever,’ students were also encouraged to participate in a round of “human bingo”. This version of bingo involved students asking questions to one another across the room in order to fill up the Bingo questionnaire. Students asked questions such as, “‘have you met a celebrity,’ ‘do you like to camp,’ ‘and can you speak more than two languages?’“

Students were also encouraged to wear pajamas and comfortable clothes, with hot chocolate and pancakes being served.

Leyla Gudino, a sophomore at Fresno State, said she attended the event for the free pancakes and used it as an opportunity to socialize. Most students had just finished their classes and decided to stop by for some warm pancakes and hot chocolate.

“While I was there I really liked it. I like meeting new people. It was kinda refreshing, ” said Jasmine Sidhu, an international student.

It was a night for students to relax and let off some steam after the first few weeks of the new semester.

The night was a success, students left with new friends and full stomachs by the end. Fresno State’s Spotlight events will be holding more activities throughout the month. XOXO Spotlight Events begins on Feb. 14, and the Black History Month Block Party on Feb 22.
