Former Fresno State linebacker and current linebackers coach of the BC Lions in the Canadian Football League, Travis Brown, has been revealed as the fourth confirmed COVID-19 case in Fresno County, according to a Facebook statement by his mother, Mindy Brown.
In the post Brown said, “Take a look at the big, strong, healthy young man. He is my son, Travis Brown. He is also the fourth confirmed case of COVID-19 in Fresno County.”
Brown said her son was taken by ambulance to Clovis Community Hospital on March 14 and was released from the emergency room later that same day to self-quarantine as he awaited his test results.
“Travis and I felt it was our duty to share this information with you because many of you are not taking this seriously,” said Brown. “WE ALL NEED TO DO BETTER AT THIS! You could be carrying the virus and not even know it. You need to comprehend that nothing can be done for you if you get this!”
Brown was a four-star recruit out of Clovis West High School, earning first team all-state honors and ranked the No.11 linebacker in the nation, and committed to the Bulldogs in 2009 to play for his father, long time Bulldog assistant Dan Brown. He would never get the chance to play for his father, as his father passed away from a two-year battle with brain cancer at age 50 in 2009.
During his time with the Bulldogs, he earned a second team All-WAC selection (2010), first team All-WAC selection (2011) and second team All-Mountain West selection in 2012 and helped lead the Bulldogs to the 2012 Mountain West Championship. He ended his Bulldog career with 260 total tackles (146 solo and 114 assisted), six sacks and one interception.
Fresno State football responded to Travis’ situation in a tweet on Sunday.
“Our thoughts are with Travis, and his family, as he fights this terrible virus. COVID-19 is serious; let’s all do our part.”
