Five ‘Dogs take top spot earning titles at Roadrunner Open

The Fresno State wrestling team traveled to Bakersfield where five Bulldogs captured titles at the 2019 Roadrunner Open on Sunday, according to a Fresno State Athletics news release.

133-pound redshirt sophomore Gary Joint, 141-pound redshirt junior DJ Lloren, 157-pound redshirt sophomore Jacob Wright, 174-pound redshirt sophomore Jackson Hemauer and junior heavyweight Aj Nevills all earned first place in their respective weight classes.

In addition to the five first-place finishes, Fresno State also had four other wrestlers in the finals who all finished in second place. 149-pound redshirt junior Greg Gaxiola, 165-pound redshirt freshman Adam Kemp, 184-pound redshirt Hunter Cruz and 197-pound freshman Ryan Reyes each fought hard in the finals, but came up short.

Five other ‘Dogs, which all made the semifinals, also placed in the top five. 133-pound junior Isaiah Perez, 141-pound freshman Kyle Parco and 184-pound redshirt senior Dominic Kincaid all placed in third place. 141-pound redshirt freshman Lawrence Saenz placed in fourth place and 165-pound redshirt senior Ricky Padilla finished in fifth place.

In addition to the 14 wrestlers who placed on Sunday, the Bulldogs had 10 other student-athletes compete on Sunday. A total of 24 Bulldogs see action at the Icardo Center on the campus of California State University, Bakersfield.

Fresno State closes out the month of November on Saturday hosting the University of Northern Colorado (1-0, 1-0 B12) at 7 p.m. at the Save Mart Center for the Big 12 opener.
