Artistic talk and exhibition revolves around Holocaust

“The Yishai Jusidman: Prussian Blue” exhibition will run from Sept. 19 to Oct. 21 in the Phebe Conley Art Gallery in Fresno State’s Henry Madden Library.

Fresno State’s Center for Creativity and the Arts (CCA) is responsible for hosting the “Art and Identity: Boundaries and Perceptions” for it’s 2019-2020 theme, which explores the Jewish Holocaust using the colors of gas, mineral and flesh from Jusidman’s series of paintings, “Prussian Blue.”

As a Jewish Mexican artist, Jusidman restricted himself to use three main colors for his art: Prussian blue paint, an earthy material of sedimentary rock dust as a translucent filler and flesh-colored paints.

“In my Prussian Blue series, I address the Holocaust in painting by seeking to generate the pictorial impression of a silence as solemn and forthright as it is eloquent, thus furnishing an alternative to the fatalistic strictures that have stifled the production of works dealing with this subject,” Jusidman said according a Fresno State press release.

Students, faculty and the public are invited to Jusidman’s free, artistic talk on Sept. 19 at 3:30 p.m in the Peters Education Center Auditorium located inside of the Student Recreation Center. The event will carry on at 5 p.m. for an open night reception in honor of Jusidman’s art that will be displayed.

The event will be organized by Muse Unviersitatrio Arte Contemporaneo from Mexico City. The exhibition will make its debut in Fresno after traveling to several different venues in Mexico, the U.S., Paris, Madrid, China and more.

The best parking lot for this event will be in lot P5 for $5. For anyone interested in receiving a free parking code, contact Dr. Cindy Urrutia, director of the CCA.
