More than 60 students to give presentations on the First Amendment

Fresno State will host a discussion of the First Amendment sponsored by the Fresno State Institute for Media and Public Trust on March 26 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Kremen Building, Room ED 140.

Jim Boren, director of the institute and a Fresno State instructor, said in a university news release that the event is aimed at strengthening the public’s understanding of the rights granted by the First Amendment. The event will have free food and will feature presentations from more than 60 students about the First Amendment.

“Nearly everybody forgets about the freedom to assemble and petition our government,” Boren said in the release.

The institute was recently awarded a $2,000 grant for public relations students by the 1 for All Campaign, which funds colleges across the nation to provide resources to better educate students on the First Amendment, the release stated.

Students from professor Dr. Nancy Van Leuven’s public relations classes created a P.R. campaign with the First Amendment as their client for the first event, according to the release.

“The goal of the 1 for All project is to start discussions on the importance of the First Amendment and its role in public relations and related fields,” Boren said in the release. “Everybody in the community is invited to hear more than 60 students take a different look at the First Amendment.”
