Coaching Carousel: Fresno State Offensive Coordinator on the Move

The Fresno State football team will be going into the 2019 football season with a new offensive coordinator at the helm, as multiple reports Friday have confirmed that offensive coordinator Kalen DeBoer has accepted the same position at Indiana University.

DeBoer served as quarterbacks coach in 2017 and was promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2018 season, serving as one of the key cogs in the coaching staff helping to develop a Bulldog team coming off a dismal 2016 season.

Last season saw DeBoer turn Fresno State into one of the best scoring offenses ranking No. 26 in the nation, averaging 34.6 points per game and No. 20 in red zone scoring at 89.5 percent.

In his two season with the ‘Dogs, DeBoer also had a hand in developing quarterback Marcus McMaryion into one of the most efficient passers in the nation ranking in the top 25 in passing yards per game (259.2), passing efficiency (157.0) and passing touchdowns (25).

With the success of the past two seasons at Fresno State and his time at both University of Sioux Falls and Eastern Michigan, it was no surprise that DeBoer would be highly sought once the coaching carousel began this offseason.

Reports suggest that DeBoer’s new salary will increase to nearly double what it was during his time at Fresno State at $800,000 per year at Indiana staring in 2019.
