CineCulture to screen “The Other Side of Home”

Fresno State’s CineCulture film series will showcase the conflicting identity within a descendant of an Armenian Genocide survivor.

“The Other Side of Home,” directed by Naré Mkrtchyan, tells the story of a woman named Maya, who in 2015, found out that her great grandmother survived the Armenian genocide. Maya’s discovery leads her to feel conflicted about her newfound identity.

The film, which will be shown Friday at the Peters Auditorium, follows Maya’s quest to solve the cultural battle that lies within her. That quest leads her to Armenia for the 100th anniversary commemoration of the genocide.

Mkrtchyan will be at the screening to discuss her film and answer questions.

Mkrtchyan is an Armenian-American filmmaker and a University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts graduate. According to a university news release, “her passion is telling unique human stories that connect people and move beyond the boundaries of nationality, gender, and religion.”

The screening is free and open to the public.
