Fresno State made it official Monday that hoverboards are not allowed in any interior spaces of the university campus.

The campus Office of Risk Management made the final order, determining that the motorized form of transportation could present a fire hazard to students.

“Safety of our students, faculty, staff and facilities is our top priority,” a statement from the university released Monday read.

According to USA Today, the Consumer Product Safety Commission last year recalled hoverboards from several companies over concerns the devices could catch fire or explode.­The agency advised owners to stop using the hoverboards immediately and return them to the appropriate company for a replacement. Hoverboards have been popular since about 2015, but a rash of fire and explosion reports plagued their popularity. There were concerns that the hoverboard batteries overheated, according to USA Today.
