Why thousands of school children are on Fresno State’s campus

Thousands of tiny students are on the Fresno State campus Thursday and Friday for the annual Peach Blossom Festival of Oral Interpretation.

It’s the 60th year of the festival. The university said about 5,000 students from at least 145 elementary schools were expected to roam the campus before the weekend.

“The festival, which attracts schools from Livingston to Delano, was created to help young people gain knowledge and appreciation of literature through oral interpretation and performance. The event also gives children an opportunity to visit a University campus,” a news release from the university stated.

The event is hosted by the Department of Communication in the College of Arts and Humanities.

For more information, contact the festival’s director, Marcie Lierly, at 559-278-4419 or at [email protected]. The festival’s website is ww.peachblossomfestival.com.
