Unique degree in city and regional planning now available at Fresno State

Starting this semester, students at Fresno State can earn a Bachelor of Science degree in city and regional planning. The degree is offered in the College of Social Sciences.

According to a news release from the university, the geography and city regional planning department partnered with McCaffrey Homes to provide students hands-on experience in design and infrastructure through a case study class on the Tesoro Viejo development — a 1,600-acre site at the foot of Little Table Mountain.

The university also said the program is the only degree of its kind in the Central Valley.

The degree will officially be unveiled Sept. 8 by the interim dean of the College of Social Sciences, Michelle DenBeste; chair of the department of geography and city and regional planning, Michelle Calvarese and McCaffrey Homes officials at 11 a.m. at McCaffrey Homes headquarters on 7020 N. Van Ness Blvd.

The degree requires 120 completed units, 42 of which are major courses.
