Fresno State to host guest speaker, Matt Whitaker, to discuss end-of-life options

The California State University Institute for Palliative Care at Fresno Statewill present a discussion on the California End-of-Life Option Act and the Medical Aid in Dying Law on Sept. 15 at 9:15 a.m.

The discussion will be facilitated by Matt Whitaker, a former clinician who is the former Compassion & Choices Oregon State Director before accepting his current role as multi-state implementation manager.

According to a Fresno State news release, “The Medical-Aid-in-Dying Law allows a mentally capable, terminally ill California adult, with six months or less to live, the option to request aid-in-dying medication from their doctor for self-administration for a peaceful death.”

Whitaker has been referred to as an expert resource on end-of-life options to various legislative committees. Information on the eligibility of end-of-life choices and care options will be discussed and followed by a question-and-answer session.

The event, held in Fresno State’s University Student Union rooms 312 through 314, is free and open to the public.
