The bell rings again, Taco Bell to reopen next semester

After Fresno State’s Taco Bell Express closed its doors on April 28 of last semester to create space for a more health conscious dining facility, plans are halted and the student favorite is coming back.

Deborah Adishian-Astone, Vice President for Administration and Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Services said that after consultation with student leaders and various campus officials, Taco Bell will remain open for one more academic year to ensure broader feedback from students regarding replacements for the current facility.

In the fall semester, a campus-wide survey and focus groups will take place to better understand the needs of students.

Adishian-Astone said that because of the financial investment that creating an entirely new dining facility is, she wants to ensure the campus community is on board with the final decision.

Associated Students, Inc. President Blake Zante said he and ASI Executive Vice President Brandon Sepulveda heard concerns about affordability from students and wanted to ensure a low-cost food option on campus.

“Brandon scheduled a meeting with [Adishian-Astone] and was able to express these concerns that ASI had been receiving from students,” Zante said.

Zante said Adishian-Astone acknowledged and agreed that low-cost food options are important for students on campus and soon after, a decision to keep the facility another year was made.

He added that moving forward in choosing a new dining facility, ASI hopes to explore ways to help implement low-cost, healthy food options.

Adishian-Astone said that if the results lead to the closing of the facility once more, Robertito’s in the University Student Union will offer their own value menu.

Zante said, “We are grateful that the university listened to student’s concerns and acted in their interest.”
