‘Dogs bounce back in Nevada

The Fresno State women’s basketball team got their first conference win of the season as they edged the Nevada Wolfpack on the road 71-70 on Saturday, Dec. 31.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 10-4 lead early in the first quarter. Nevada would respond by going on a 12-0 run and the Wolf Pack held a 45-35 lead at the half.

Fresno State began the second half on a 7-1 run to pull the team within four points. Nevada then pushed their lead back to nine with 6:48 remaining in the game after scoring seven straight points after Fresno State pulled within two.

With five minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs forced five straight Nevada turnovers to recapture the lead since the opening quarter.

A layup by junior center Bego Faz Davalos would give the ’Dogs the lead and the team’s defense was able to hold off Nevada’s last attempts as time expired.

The ’Dogs recorded its second come-from-behind win of the season when trailing at the half.

Sophomore guard Candice White led the team with a career-high 25 points and played all 40 minutes of the game. White shot 4-for-5 from the 3-point line and added eight rebounds, two steals and one assist. Faz Davalos had six points, six rebounds, two assists and five steals. Freshman center Katelin Noyer added 12 points.

The Bulldogs (8-5, 1-1 Mountain West) go on the road to face Wyoming (10-3, 2-0 MW) on Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m.
