A total of 14 former Bulldogs have made their way onto NFL rosters.
This past weekend, teams had to make their final cut to their 53-man roster heading into the 2015 season.
Fresno State’s 14 players on active rosters is tops in the Mountain West. The Bulldogs had one more player make an NFL roster than Boise State, while Nevada had eight and Colorado State had seven make an active roster.
“It’s a big testament to Fresno State football,” junior cornerback Jamal Ellis said. “Our mentality and how we play football when we step out on that field.”
Along with the 14 Bulldogs on active NFL rosters, cornerback Curtis Riley is listed on the injured reserve for the Tennessee Titans, receiver Isaiah Burse was signed to the practice squad for the Pittsburgh Steelers and tight end Marcel Jensen was signed to the practice squad of the Atlanta Falcons.
“I’m extremely proud that there’s Fresno State alums out their representing our university,” Fresno State head coach Tim DeRuyter said. “It’s a great statement about our football program, and it’s a great recruiting tool that we tell our players that we’re recruiting.”
Now that the NFL season has officially kicked off, NFL teams will continue to clean up their rosters and deal with injuries. It is still a possibility that more Bulldogs will be added to an active roster in the foreseeable future.
