The Brew Review: ‘Lucky Buddha Beer’ satisfies the belly

Sometimes you feel like having a hoppy IPA, other times you want a dark, malty stout. But a lot of people just want to drink a more casual beer like Coors or Budweiser.

If you’d like to buy a beer that doesn’t have such an overwhelming flavor profile, but still try something new and different from the norm, Lucky Buddha is for you.

The first thing you’ll notice isn’t the color of the beer, but the beer bottle itself. The solid green bottle features no large label, but instead is in itself in the shape of the Laughing Buddha.

The beer’s popularity probably stems from the unique bottle, but it keeps people coming back because it’s incredibly easy to drink.

This Asian-style lager pours a very transparent gold with the mild aroma of an American lager.

When you take your first sip, you’ll be surprised by how smooth it is.

It’s incredibly bubbly — more so than most beers. It almost has the level of carbonation you’d expect from club soda.

In fact, its incredible smoothness is one of its pitfalls. The beer is so smooth that it almost tastes like nothing at all. If the aroma were any lighter, you would forget you’re drinking beer at all.

You instantly forget what the beer tastes like after you finish.

At least Lucky Buddha is refreshing, and it’s a good choice for someone wanting to get his or her feet wet with craft beer. Its alcohol volume is only 4.8 percent; it makes a nice session beer.

The beer is produced in the Thousand Island Lake in China.

The beer’s maker, Lucky Drinkco, says, “If one rubs the Laughing Buddha’s great belly, it brings forth wealth, good luck and prosperity.”

You can find the beer in stores around town, generally in 6-packs. It isn’t the greatest beer in the world, but it’s definitely worth trying it.
