Fresno State guard and top scorer Marvelle Harris was one of five players in the league to be named to the Mountain West Conference first team, as announced Tuesday morning by the conference.

Joining Harris as part of the league’s first team selections are Boise State senior guard and Mountain West Player of the Year Derrick Marks, Wyoming senior forward Larry Nance Jr., Colorado State senior forward J.J. Avila and San Diego State senior forward JJ O’Brien.

In addition, Harris’ high-level play earned him a spot on the Mountain West All-Defensive Team for his efforts on the defensive end of the court. Harris led the MW in several categories during conference play including steals (39, 2.2 spg), minutes played (639) and ranked second in assists with 3.7 per game, minutes per game with 37.0 minutes per game and points scored with 309.

Among those on the defensive team are Boise State sophomore forward James Webb III, SDSU’s O’Brien and junior forward Skylar Spencer, UNLV freshman forward/center Goodluck Okonoboh and Wyoming’s Nance Jr.

The junior, who ranks No. 17 on Fresno State’s all-time scoring list with 1,302 career points, averaged 17.2 points per game this season and recorded double figures in points in 29 of 31 games this season.

Harris’ All-League efforts helped the Fresno State (15-16, 10-8 MW) make a late-season surge by winning three of its last four and securing the No. 6 seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament.

The ‘Bulldogs take on the No. 3 seed in the conference in Colorado State tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The Rams (26-5, 13-5 MW) swept the ‘Dogs by an average of 15.5 points in each regular season game and are riding a five-game win streak heading into Thursday’s matchup.
