Attendees look at photographer Neil Chowdhury’s solo exhibition, “Burdens and Desires” at art gallery Corridor 2122. The photographs examine his personal connection to India with his heritage while exploring the country’s capitalist growth alongside its lower socio-economic classes.

Fresno State photography professor Neil Chowdhury showcased a solo exhibition at local gallery Corridor 2122 as a part of ArtHop. ArtHop takes place twice a month at various venues in Downtown Fresno and Tower District.

Chowdhury’s exhibition takes on his exploration of India. Chowdhury’s personal experiences of being Indian, British and American are shown through “Burdens and Desires,” a variety of subjects that cross class lines from the middle class to the homeless in India.

His photography “investigates the complex collision of traditional lifestyles with conspicuous consumption and capitalist aspirations, chronicling the ways in which this social and economic upheaval is shaping a new India as it plays out in the drama of everyday lives on the streets of India’s biggest cities,” according to Corridor 2122.

“Burdens and Desires” will run through March 22 on Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 4 p.m.
