Offense: Robbie Rouse, running back

With A.J. Ellis out for the game today, Rouse will get his chance to earn back his starting position. After rushing for 479 yards and four touchdowns last season behind Ryan Mathews, Rouse entered the 2010 season as the ‘Dogs featured back. But injuries forced Rouse to miss the Utah State game and thus opened the door for Ellis. Against Cal Poly, the roles will be reversed, Ellis will be on the sidelines with Rouse taking the the majority of the handoffs from quarterback Ryan Colburn.

Rouse hasn’t been entirely impressive so far this season, but Bulldogs coach Pat Hill has said that Rouse hasn’t been completely 100 percent yet. In limited action this year, Rouse has rushed for 62 yards on 27 carries and has five receptions for 37 yards and a touchdown. With Ellis and receivers Jamel Hamler and Devon Wylie sidelined for today, expect Rouse to have a big day running the ball.

Defense: Ben Jacobs, linebacker

Senior Ben Jacobs has played quietly well this season after racking up 17 tackles and two pass defensed. With Cal Poly bringing the infamous triple option into Bulldog Stadium tonight, Jacobs will get the opportunity to be the tackling machine that he has been the past three years.

The ‘Dogs haven’t played at home since beating Cincinnati 28-14 in the season opener.

“It’s going to be good to come home for three weeks in a row,” Jacobs said. “It seems like a while since we’ve been here. We’re looking forward to it. We’re excited.
