China to ban eating dogs, cats
China plans to end thousands of years of culinary tradition by taking dogs and cat meat off its menu. A law being drafted against animal abuse, China’s first, calls for the country’s thousands of dog butchers and dog meat restaurants to be closed down. Here at The Collegian we say it’s about time! Fido and Garfield deserve better than this!

The iPad
While Steve Jobs and Apple have always been cutting edge and trend setters, The Collegian cannot lend its support to Apple’s newest creation; a tablet-like computer called the iPad. It’s smaller than a Macbook and bigger than an iPhone, leaving it the perfect size for (SARCASM ALERT! SARCASM ALERT!) those who can’t fit it in their pockets and don’t want it sitting on their laps.

“Steve Jobs descended from Mount Apple with his tablet containing his 10 commandments.” Honestly, some form of this joke had to be made. Hey, it’s better than those who made the iPad and women’s product joke…

The NFL Pro Bowl
The Pro Bowl, for some odd reason, was held yesterday, the week before the Super Bowl (thus eliminating from participation everyone who is playing for the NFC and AFC championship teams), in Miami, NOT IN HAWAII! Are we sure NBA Commissioner David Stern didn’t plant Roger Goodell in the NFL’s post to purposely sabotage the NFL like he did when he made Gary Bettman the NHL’s commissioner?

Bathroom quizzes
As this editor was getting on his AOL e-mail account (yes, he still has one; no, you can’t make fun of him for it) a bathroom quiz was found on its home page. First question? Is it normal to go to the bathroom 10 times in a day. The answer? No. (Dang it!)

Thanks, Joshua4234, for your reply and comment. I’m glad you understand and are honest about it. Most westerners would criticize me. They will call me all sorts of name but can’t logically defend their arguement except say dog’s are cute or they’re man’s best friends or some things like that.

Well, it’s sad to say most people in this area are not intellectually honest enough to recognize that the only reasonable arguments they have against eating dogs and cats is equally valid for pigs, cows, sheep, etc, but the reason they eat farm animals is because they are conditioned by culture to not care about eating those particular animals. The idea that another culture might be conditioned to not care about eating a different set of animals seems to boggle their minds.

Dear Collegian,
I picked up the campus newspaper a few days ago and read the One-finger Salute. I was offended at the inconsideration and intolerance of the Collegian. It was very racist to give a thumbs up to “China to ban eating dogs, cats.” I'm not Chinese nor have I ever eaten dogs, and I'm not afraid to give it a try either. We live in a different culture, and we accept and not accept certain things. Is it right for us to force another country's tradition just because we don't like it? It makes us like crybabies suppressing other countries' traditions to fit our likening. If eating dogs WERE MORALLY wrong, I can see why we should praise China for banning it. I just don't see anything immoral about eating dogs except we treat a few like friends, but we also treat fish and birds like friends. How come we can eat them? It just sickens me when I see other countries try to be politically correct just to impress westerners. Did the Collegian even think about the Chinese students on this campus, especially those from China studying here? If this was UC Berkely campus, would the Collegian have had second thoughts?
I'm offended, and I find this racist and inconsiderate. The joke in the end was insulting too, nothing for me to laugh about.
