One-finger salute

Culled each week from discussions in The Collegian newsroom.

Thumbs up
Rogue Festival

All right, people, it̢۪s time to venture to the other side of town for a healthy dose of culture. Even if your hangout spot is Fig Garden, River Park or the overrated Friant/Fort Washington area, you won̢۪t regret heading over to the Tower District for a wide variety of music and art being performed through this week. And if whatever show you see isn̢۪t quite your cup of tea, the nice selection of bars makes for a solid Plan B.

Thumbs down
Midterms

Even though some of us may be in our third or fourth year of college, we still cringe a bit at the sound of the word ‘midterm.’ It’s similar to the cringe experienced when still not used to the awfully loud sound of people stomping on the metal staircases in the library.

Thumbs up
Signs of spring

Flowers blooming, cherry blossoms on the ground and bright green grass on our lovely mounds… spring [break] is almost here!

Thumbs down
Fresno State baseball team

Even though coming off a national championship, the ̢۪Dogs are now 3-4 after losing 1-2 against Oregon this past weekend. C̢۪mon, show us some more of that champion talent.

Thumbs up
Fresno State pitcher Holden Sprague

With only his second start of the season, senior Sprague pitched for 7 and 2/3 innings with no runs and four strikeouts against the Ducks.

Thumbs down
Rising unemployment rate

California̢۪s unemployment rate rose to 10.1 percent in January making all of us that depend on a steady income worry about our job security. If laid off, maybe we can go work for the state since they̢۪re hiring more people to deal with the increasing unemployment claims.

We can’t rest on our 2008 laurels. They need to put up this year. 1-2 vs. a team that didn’t even exist last year isn’t anything to take lightly. Our lacrosse team should get the big thumbs down.

you bunch of noobs. baseball is probably the hardest sport to consistently win. And a 3-4 record is barely anything to get worried about. I mean they probably play at least 80 games in a season. Thumbs down to your team for not winning it right out of the gate? Come on! It was already a near-miracle that they won it ALL last season.

It’s a game of failures and will almost always lead to disappointment.
