Which mascot will win Saturday night?

Barack Obama or John McCain? David Cook or David Archuleta? Old Timeout or new Timeout?

America is a country built on voting, whether it is for the president or for the newest American Idol, but there is a new vote that the Valley should be aware of.

Over the summer, fans logged on to the official athletic website, gobulldogs.com, and voted on which mascot should represent Fresno State, the old Timeout or the new Timeout.

Fresno State will unveil the results of the vote at Saturday night̢۪s game.

Last year, the new Timeout made its debut to mixed reviews. There was instant backlash with fans wanting the old Timeout back.

A group on Facebook called “Bring the Old Timeout Backâ€Â was created to rally fans to bring back the original Mascot.

The Fresno Bee reported that the administration received more than 200 e-mails about Timeout, with some including cursing and threats.

“I like the old one better,â€Â said senior Josh Steele, a mass communication and journalism major. “He looks tougher. I have a hard time taking the new one seriously.â€Â

Another student didn̢۪t like Timeout̢۪s new look, but it was for different reasons.

“Timeout needs to be cuddly. We’ll hug them to death,â€Â said Fresno State junior mass communication and journalism major Lauren Gaither.

Most students did not immediate take a liking to the new version of the mascot and some of the athletes Timeout cheers on felt the same way.

“I preferred the old Timeout. He’s less cartoonish and more intimidating,â€Â softball senior third baseman Haley Perkins said. “Fresno State is about tradition and we don’t need the new one. I miss the Old Timeout.â€Â

Softball teammate Ashley Cox agreed.

“I like the first one. I grew up with the first Timeout,â€Â Cox said. He brings back a lot of memories, ever since I was young and going to basketball games I remember seeing him, even if sometimes I was scared, he brings back memories.â€Â

So, when the Bulldogs take the field for what could be the biggest football game in school history, which Timeout will be the mascot?

You voted and the winner is… drum roll please.
