A short on summer fun

Whether you want something to do during the day time in Fresno or to help cool you down at night from the warm weather, the city of Fresno is here to help.

From Memorial Day to the start of fall, there̢۪s something for every pocketbook, from free movie showings to massive out door activities. Parks, Recreation and Community Service office offers countless activities and events to do for summer 2008.

“My friends and I have movie nights during school, so it will be nice to keep the tradition going during the summer,â€Â Souza said.

Movies in the park, is Fresno̢۪s version of a drive-in. Bring a lounge chair and blanket to relax.

For something to do before a Fresno Grizzlies game, visit The Vibe at Sports town on Kern Street.

“We are calling this event The VIBE at Sports Town on Kern Street to acknowledge that we are revitalizing an area of the downtown with a new energy,â€Â Heather Heinks said.

The city has added new beautifully designed concrete, lighting and sports banners featuring recent and historic local sports figures.

The VIBE event will offer live music, BMX stunt demos, professional athletes, dignitaries, sports memorabilia and food and refreshments.

“We are excited about what we believe to be a new VIBE in the downtown and the start of many more similar events in the future,â€Â Heinks said. “These events are geared to get people downtown in the evenings and future events to keep people coming downtown.â€Â
