‘Dog Bites

Women‘s Basketball

The Fresno State‘s women‘s basketball team defeated Louisiana Tech 82-63 on Feb. 4 at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, La.

It was the team‘s first win at Louisiana Tech and it also marked the first time that Louisiana Tech has been swept by a conference opponent since 1990.

Fresno State is now 8-1 in WAC play and 13-9 overall. Louisiana Tech fell to 10-11 and 4-4 in the conference.

Jaleesa Ross and Hayley Munro both scored career highs in the game.

Ross scored 21 points, while Munro scored 17. Tierre Wilson scored 15 points and Erica Henry scored 11.

Fresno State shot 50 percent from the field and held Louisiana to 39 percent shooting.

The ‘Dogs had 18 assists and forced Louisiana Tech into 22 turnovers.

The Bulldogs will return to the Save Mart Center on Feb. 10 against Utah State at 2 p.m.

Men‘s Tennis

On Feb. 2, Fresno State‘s men‘s tennis team narrowly lost against San Diego 4-3.

The doubles point was what decided the match.

The Bulldogs trailed 1-0 after doubles and 3-1 midway through the singles competition.

They managed to tie at 3-3 with the match on court No. 2. San Diego‘s Thomas Liversage beat Mirko Zapetal in the third set to give San Diego the victory after more than four hours of competition.

The loss dropped the Bulldogs to 2-2 while San Diego won its first match of the year and is now 1-1.

In doubles, A.J. Kerin and Zapetal were the only winners for Fresno State.

Fresno State will battle Hawaii on Friday at the Spalding G. Wathen Tennis Center at 5 p.m.

Women‘s Tennis

The Fresno State women‘s tennis team moved up to No. 12 in the nation on Tuesday.

They will be heading to the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championships in Madison, Wis. on Thursday.

The team‘s first two matches were postponed by rain, but will be able to start the new season with the championship.

Fresno State will meet Feb. 7-10 in Wisconsin along with 15 other teams.

These teams are known as the Sweet Sixteen. They will all be competing for a national title.

Juniors Melanie Gloria and Tinesta Rowe go into the championships as the nation’s No. 1 doubles tandem.

The doubles point will once again be crucial in each match.

The Bulldogs will face Northwestern at 7 a.m. in the round of 16.

Softball

Robin Mackin, last season‘s stand-out pitcher, who is redshirting this season, will blog on Fresno State‘s athletic website, gobulldogs.com.

She will tell stories of her travels with the Canadian National Team as she prepares for the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.

Her blogs will include stories about the places she has been, the people she has met and things she has learned along the way.

Mackin is set to return to the Bulldog line-up in 2009.
