Bulldogs beat No. 21 team in tourney

Jenna Cervantez went 1 for 3 with a run scored in yesterday̢۪s game against UNLV in the Palms Springs Classic in Cathedral City. The Bulldogs will face Ohio State and Texas today.

The Bulldogs shut out No. 21 UNLV 2-0 led by freshman pitcher Morgan Melloh.

Melloh is now 5-0 and the Bulldogs are 6-1 overall.

UNLV falls to 9-2-1 overall.

The remaining games for the Bulldogs at the Palms Springs Classic in Cathedral City include games against two more ranked teams.

Fresno State took the lead over the Rebels in the fourth inning when, for the first time in the game, there were batters on base.

The ‘Dogs took the lead when senior Ashley White hit a double to left field, scoring Aja Scheuber from second base.

In the top of the fifth, Jenna Cervantez scored from third off a sacrifice by Caitlin Stiglich to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

White had two hits for the Bulldogs to lead the team.

White and Stiglich each had an RBI while Melloh allowed just one hit in her third shutout of the season.

Melloh had 11 strikeouts in seven innings pitched with one hit.

UNLV pitcher Stephanie Bregante (5-2) had eight strikeouts and five hits.

The Bulldogs take on Ohio State and Texas today and Long Island and UMass on Saturday.

The Ohio State game can be heard live on 790 ESPN the Deuce and the Texas game will be live on 1430 ESPN Radio.
