Women’s basketball preview

Breakdown: Bulldogs

After starting the season with six consecutive losses, the Fresno State women̢۪s basketball team finally made it into the win column on Saturday.

The Bulldogs were led by senior guard Tierre Wilson, who had a career-high 28 points as Fresno State knocked off Long Beach State 66-55 on Saturday, despite the team shooting 2-of-19 from behind the 3-point line.

Fresno State trailed by 11 at the break, but came back thanks, in part, to a 17-rebound edge.

The Bulldogs will look to win two in a row tonight against Saint Mary̢۪s while on the road.

This is the last game of a three-game road trip.

In the first game of the trip, Fresno State lost 81-75 to Loyola Marymount.

Fresno State will return home on Saturday at 1 p.m. to take on Sacramento State.

Breakdown: Gaels

Saint Mary̢۪s is coming off a 66-56 loss to Alabama.

The Gaels shot 20 percent from the field and still only lost by ten.

The Gaels, members of the West Coast Conference (WCC), were selected to finish fifth in the WCC preseason poll.

This season, Saint Mary̢۪s is 5-5, with its own ups and downs.

Saint Mary̢۪s defeated Boise State earlier this season, but were also blown out by Baylor 101-47.

The Gaels could still give the Bulldogs fits inside.

Freshman Louella Tomlinson ranks second in the NCAA in blocks per game and set a school record with 10 in the game against the Crimson Tide.

The Gaels are led by returning All-WCC guard Jontell Smith, who averaged 11.6 points per game last season.
