While there is no denying ASI’s long winded list of accomplishement that have happened under Dr. Welty’s watch, they have failed to miss the big picture: one “Oh S***”, and in this case three, can erase all the “Good Jobs” from before. Friends I talk to from other universities around the nation know Fresno State as the “discremination school”. But valley natives have known this for years. If you are a woman and rock Dr. Welty’s boat, you will be tossed from it. Of course he won’t do it himself, but let someone else do his dirty work so they can be martyred.

I think it is appropriate to call Fresno State athletics by a more fitting name… Welty’s Criminal Enterprises. Unfortunately for him, they are costing the university more than they are providing. Be clear, I’m not bashing our student athletes, they are victims just as the rest of the student population is. But there is obvious discrimination going on. Let’s look back. Football coach Jim Sweeney gets a DUI, no big deal. A slap on the wrist. Coach Tarkanian and Lopes of the men’s basketball team did their part to carry on the scandals ( more DUI, letting drug using players continue to play, aiding a suspected, and now convicted, murderer). Cutting the wrestling program with no notice. Boys will be boys I suppose. Yet no action taken against them. As long as seats are being sold in the stadium or arena, everything is OK.

Now to Coach Johnson-Klein. You took a pain pill from a player. Shame on you! And the rest of us too. Honestly, it’s not difficult to get a prescription pain pill from anyone these days. Most of us have done it, wrong as it is. I can’t speak for mistreating players because only the women on those teams know what it was like. You brought up inequality issues in the athletic dept., which got you fired. We should have warned you ( and Coach Vivas and Diane Multinovich ) that Dr. Welty doesn’t like that! Congrats on your victory, as controversial as it may be.

As for the ASI president, you speak for yourself only. And you are proof that Dr. Welty can turn someone in a powerful postion on this campus into a “yes man”. I agree with Senator Flores, Dr. Welty needs to resign, or get fired if the CSU chancellor gets some integrity, so the bleeding can be stopped here at Fresno State. Remember this Dr. Welty… there are no bad troops, only bad leaders. You sir, are a horrible leader! I’d tell you to leave with what dignity you have left, but… you know.
