Cross Country
Both men̢۪s and women̢۪s cross country teams attended the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) Championships in Logan, Utah on Saturday, and will attend regionals on Nov. 10.
The men̢۪s team finished fourth place and the women̢۪s team took fifth place.
For the men, freshman Erick Garcia finished 11th with a time of 24:13, and sophomore Frank Sanders finished within tenths of a second for 12th place.
Both earned second-team All-WAC honors.
Sophomore Brandon Geis finished with a time of 24:45 for 19th place.
The women̢۪s fifth place finish was led by junior Roxanne Sellick, who finished eighth with a time of 17:19.
Sophomore Marissa McPhail finished 10th with a time of 17:28.
Both were named second-team All WAC honorees as well.
Sophomore Jennifer Hernandez posted a time of 18:11 for 31st, and senior Meredith Hawkins finished 33rd with a time of 18:14.
Equestrian
The Bulldogs won their only fall home event Saturday over SMU at the Student Horse Center on campus.
Fresno State scored six points in the Flat and won four of six matches in Fences in the English-only event.
Katie Nenneker was the MVP of the event with a score of 77 on a horse named Ditto.
The ̢۪Dogs were led by Lindsay Blair in the Flat, who scored a 75 on a horse named Duke. Blair was selected the MVP of the event.
Jennifer Jory, Lisa Wells and freshman Courtney Thomas also earned wins.
Fresno State totaled 428 aggregate points over SMU̢۪s 391.
Women̢۪s Soccer
The Bulldogs earned a win and a tie on the road this weekend to improve their record to 4-1-1 in WAC play.
In Sunday̢۪s 3-0 win at Idaho, the Bulldogs out shot Idaho 19-11.
Amanda Reyes scored two goals on four shot attempts, and Nicole Gutierrez scored one on five shot attempts.
Gutierrez̢۪s goal came in the ninth minute off a pass from Ali Sill.
Reyes increased the lead to two in the 28th minute off a pass from Sill. Her shot bounced in front of the keeper and spun into the goal.
Reyes̢۪ second goal of the night came 10 minutes into the second half, off a cross from Gutierrez.
In the 1-1 tie at Boise State Friday, the Bulldogs̢۪ lone goal game from Gutierrez off a pass from Sill in the 35th minute.
Boise State tied up the game in the 80th minute.
The final result came after two 10 minute overtime periods.
The ̢۪Dogs return home Thursday for senior night and the last home game of the season against CSU Bakersfield.
Volleyball
The Utah State Aggies defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in Logan, Utah Saturday.
The game scores were 26-30, 22-30, 30-27 and 26-30.
Tiffany Hess served to start the match and gave the Bulldogs an early 3-1 lead.
Utah State went on a 5-0 run to take its first lead at 7-4.
The Bulldogs were able to cut the lead to three on four occasions, but were never able to re-take the lead.
Alisha McKee and Tairyn Rasmussen each had five kills in game one.
In game two, the Aggies found the early lead, up 22-10 at one point.
The Bulldogs came within seven but ultimately lost the game 22-30.
Game three started out with the Aggies leading but behind the serving of Kasey Van Grouw and Meghan Moss, the ̢۪ Dogs racked up a 20-17 lead.
The Aggies took the lead at 21-20 but after tying up the game at 21, the rally began. The Bulldogs took the lead 29-27 and a kill by McKee gave Fresno State game three.
Fresno State hit a match-high .216 in game three and Angela Wiggins had seven kills.
The Aggies came out in game four with determination but the Bulldogs put up another fight.
Game four had 15 ties and five lead changes.
Utah State took a 19-18 lead and the Bulldogs could not re-take the lead. The Aggies went on and took game four, 26-30.
Wiggins led the Bulldogs with 16 kills and McKee had 15 kills.
Van Grouw had 20 assists and a career-high 21 digs.
