How do you feel about homecoming? Will you be celebrating homecoming week, if at all? Will you be attending the homecoming game?

“In my earlier years of college, I would go to as many games as I could. But lately, I’ve been busy with school and work and school’s gotten a lot harder. As soon as I got a job, I was on my own and so sometimes I can’t even afford to go to games.â€Â

“This year, because we do have Greek Week during Homecoming Week, I’m going to get involved with all the things we have for Greek Week. We have a salsa-making contest, a step contest — just different things to come out and support Fresno State.â€Â

“The Homecoming game is a lot more fun — there are usually a lot more people there. We get to pull out the nice red Bulldog shit and support the team and support the school. There are a lot of fun things going on all week.â€Â

“People feel more responsible, like they should be part of the celebration. I’ve been to schools with bigger homecomings than Fresno State, but I’m always up for it. At other schools, everyone’s wearing all the colors. Just look around here. I think we need a little more spirit.â€Â

“I don’t know anything about homecoming. I didn’t go here as an undergraduate and I just started teaching here. I think I may have seen a banner around somewhere. I think there’s always a danger in trying to compartmentalize our lives, so I think recognizing camaraderie, community and engaging in extracurricular activities is as important as your academic life in becoming a well-rounded person.â€Â

Nicole Howell

Professor

“It’s just homecoming. I think there are more important things to do in school. There are more important things than football. It seems like homecoming here is all about football. That’s all people here seem to associate it with — and beer, I guess.â€Â

Who cares: what happened to the wrestling and men’s soccer team? Why can’t we support more varsity sports at this university? Why have we won only one NCAA Championship? Why have Boise and Utah played in Fiesta Bowls and we’re gonna be playing in another third tier bowl come December?

    Homecoming isn't just footbal!!Oct 17, 2007 at 6:03 pm

It is also full of other activities.

And, oh by the way, you get to see alot of ALUMNI who are “coming home” to their school, and hopefully now that they are out there making the BIG BUCKS…

They will contribute to your school and help keep your EDUCATION costs down.

That’s what it was originally meant to be, but then it did not emphasize the current students, so all the other different activities are there for efveryone to feel a part of their school.
